Six weeks later……. 

I looked at the clock on the kitchen wall again. Only three minutes had past since I last looked at it. I was feeling very antsy just sitting here waiting. Larissa sat across from me at the table and flicked water at me from finger, having dipped it into her glass. “Relax! They’ll be here in a few minutes.” She told me. “Besides, if you need a diversion, I could grant you that just to get your mind somewhere else. Hint hint.” Larissa added. I ran my finger down the side of my glass. Guiding the condensation down towards the bottom and the table. “I’m anxious, I’m excited, I’m terrified, worried. A lot of ‘human’ emotions in one lump before you my dear.” I told her, and it was the truth. Larissa smiled back and reached across and took my hand. “Mark my love. I know that you’ve done all that you can for Rachel and then some. You’ve met with the Cy-Gen Board of Directors on her behalf, you’ve made promises to both them and to Rachel. Everything will turn out OK. You’ll see.” She said trying to reassure me. I gave her hand a squeeze, “I know, I know! Did I tell you how zealous they all seemed when they found out that Maximillion Wilson had constructed his own android and incorporated his designs and theories into her? They were like a pack of wolves, ready to devour and tear her apart to just to find out what makes her tick.” I took a drink from my glass and continued, “I made three promises that day. One to myself, never to go before them again. Another to Rachel, that she would remain intact, online and through thick or thin be granted what she ultimately desired. And finally to the wolves, that they could have all her design specs. At least all that Rachel had given me.” Larissa blew out a long sigh, “…and the winner is?....” She announced mockingly. “Rachel.” I said softly. “Rachel comes out the winner. Cy-Gen agreed to upgrade her chassis with all the aspects of a fully functional body, an up to date firmware package, with no down time what so ever. That was part of the reason it’s taken all these weeks.” I explained to her, probably for the seventh of eight time. “What about Traci? You allowed them to tinker with her as well? You haven’t said much about her the last few days.” Larissa inquired. 
I looked at her across the table from me. Larissa had been my first pet project. She had come so far in the two years I'd been working with her. Advancements in her A.I, so close to being sentient, yet everything she observed was still off of baseline programming and personal interaction with me. I let out a sigh. “Yes, Traci. She…she’s an experiment in progress I guess you could say.” Larissa looked at me wide eyed. “She’s running a beta prototype A.I., not quite a mirror of Rachel's matrix, but she will most likely be aware of her robotic nature now, although, she'll not speak of it openly, as well as being able to think for herself. Her personality matrix had to be re-written to adapt to Max’s design concept. Even I don’t quite understand it all.” I said somewhat weary. 

Twenty more minutes past before I heard the main door open in the front foyer. Larissa held my hand firmly. “Let them come find us.” She suggested. I tried to pull away, but she held me firm till I gave in and relaxed. "Be patient." She gave me a pleasant smile as we waited. “Aunt Larissa, Uncle Mark? I’m home! I’ve brought Rachel with me.” Traci called from the foyer. “Better go to them instead.” I said to Larissa. “We’re coming!” I called out. 
As we came down the hall, the knots in my stomach tightened considerably. It was like Christmas morning as a child, not being able to sleep and anxiously waiting for Santa to arrive, yet hesitant with fear that something would be missing. Turning the corner there they stood. Traci and Rachel, smiling and holding hands. 

“Mark, Larissa, it’s so good to finally be home again!” Traci said excitedly as she let go of Rachel’s hand and sprang to give us both a hug. “It’s good to have you back too.” Larissa stated. As I hugged Traci, I kept an eye on Rachel who stood there and smiled at us. She gave a wink as she noticed me looking at her, and I smiled back. “Mmmm you smell good.” I complimented Traci. “Thanks, we made a detour to the mall before coming home. I hope we didn’t keep you waiting too long.” I shook my head as I took a step back. “Rachel, welcome back. It’s great to see you again.” I said warmly. “Thanks, this feels more like home to me also. I hope that’s alright?” She said. I exchanged a look with Larissa who just nodded back in agreement. Walking up to Rachel I reached for her hand. “Our home is your home. Stay as long as you like.” She blushed and bowed her head a little, then took a deep breath. “Well, Traci, Larissa, do you mind if I steal Mark for a little while?” She asked with a little more confidence. Traci grabbed Larissa by the arm. “No, not at all. Come on Larissa, we’ve got some catching up to do ourselves.” “Fine with me.” Larissa agreed, as the two of them headed back towards the kitchen. Larissa gave a quick glance back at me, smiled and gave a nod of her head. Signifying that this was alright. Still holding Rachel's hand, she pulled me close, wrapping her arms around my waist and hugged me tight. “Thank you for everything. I know you really had to pull some strings and ask for favors on my behalf.” She said softly. I returned her hug, holding her there in the foyer. After a few moments we each took a step back, “My office?” I suggested. Rachel shook her head, “I was thinking upstairs, somewhere more private, in the spare bedroom perhaps.” I raised my brow in curiosity. “OK.” I said. Rachel quickly took off her overcoat, tossing it over a chair, as she headed up the stairs. I followed behind her, watching her slender legs and calves as she ascended the stairs. Rachel said nothing as she reached the top and turned right, down the hall towards the spare room across from Traci’s. Upon entering the room she spun around to face me. “Close the door please. She stated as a wicked smile crossed her face. “Very ingenious.” Having said that she turned and walked away from Larissa and headed for the stairs.
