A malfunction in terms of Fembot related ASFR is when a fembot suddenly fails to function properly. This can be accompanied by sparks, error messages (Verbal or text in robo-vision/panels), and loss of motor control eventually leading to total systems failure or deactivation.
In some extreme cases, instead of total failure or shut down, a malfunction can actually cause the fembot to cause harm to themselves or to others.
Malfunctions in fiction
In the movie Cherry 2000, the Cherry android gets wet and suddenly starts sparking. She also loses all motor control and you can hear a loud beeping sound emitting from her systems before she eventually shuts down.
In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Buffy-Bot gets damaged by a vampire and loses her sense of direction, causing her to bang into things.
