When recharging is shown in TV or movies, there is often a power cord plugged into an open [[access panel]] or other entry point.  The other end of this cord leads to a power supply, such as an electrical power outlet or a generator.  In some cases, the android is offline while recharging.  Some androids are able to recharge while they are still online though.  Androids can also recharge by having their batteries replaced.

In fiction, recharge scenes can be used to reveal to the audience and to other characters that a certain character is a robot.  Scenes like this can often involve access panels, [[electronic beeping]] and other indicators of a robot's synthetic state.

Casella Reese recharging in the movie Cyborg²

A recharge scene is that which shows an android having her power supply recharged.

This is frequently depicted in older works as a fembot being directly plugged into a power source through an open panel or exposed socket, such as a generator or battery, though more modern works can also feature a fembot connected to or standing in a "cradle" device similar to a cell phone charger. This is frequently used as an android version of sleeping, and is one of a number of means of displaying said character's artificial nature. It can also be used as a set up to show that an android character needs to recharge, and that failure to do so could lead to an android character shutting down.
