Rosie the converted stewardess robot whirs loudly as she walks away

Whirring sounds are an auditory effect produced by motorized equipment as it moves. This sound can be used in TV, movies and other fiction to strongly convey that a character is a fembot. In gynoid related fiction and media, whirring sounds can occur when an android moves its limbs, or when a panel is opened. This type of plot device is very effective in enhancing the artificial effect of a character, and it is often used in conjunction with robotic motion.

Notable examples of whirring sounds

  • Luvbot from the short film of the same name
  • Robo-Dina from the show Wicked Science
  • Robot-Monica from the short film Monica Electronica
  • Fembots from Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
