You brush past the attendant, your lips sealed, still searching for Pamina.
The attendant steps in your path, stamping her foot in impatience. “This priestess will only lead you astray! Call to Pamina and take her away!” The attendant’s voice catches on the last note, a slight stutter marring her otherwise flawless singing. You look at her in silence, and her frustration only mounts.
She begins a new verse, the translation reading, “You are stubborn and prideful and you are lost! Pamina’s life shall be the cost!” but she never gets through the line, her voice catching on a trill as smoke begins to seep from her ears. When you push past her once more in search of Pamina, you see a light suddenly flare from beneath her dress – through her skirts, you can see her rump glows brightly, plumes of smoke now billowing from her mouth, still caught on that note.
