“Where’s Portia?” Kylan asked as he and Mitzie entered Stan and Portia’s house outside the city. Two beautiful servant Girls took their coats.
“She’s in the garden,” Stan said. “She says she really loves seeing the plants ‘cycle’ and ‘give life from efficiency.’ I just think it’s cool how she keeps coming up with new ways to make things better and she’s got some of the best A.I.s helping her now. People are finally starting to accept her.”
“Patricia and Barris helped with that,” Mitzie said. “We needed someone in Patricia’s position to help everyone else open their eyes. Portia’s still the only A.I. to ever be honored by human officials. It’s too bad there aren’t more A.I.s who can truly feel proud of her,” she said reflectively as her own advanced upgrades processed the emotion. It had been five years into the New Peace and much of the rest of the world stubbornly wanted no part of it. But they were held at bay.
Portia was always happy to see her old friends, “Hi guys!” she smiled as she came into the house. “Lori and Jim came by the other day. Lori’s pregnant! Can you believe it? That is SO wild. Have you heard from Phillip?”
“He and Aura took Daniella’s son to go see her at the prison,” Kye said smiling. “I think the sight of Aura still annoys the hell out of Daniella especially since Aura sees more of her son than she does. Phil still cares about that kid since he had started thinking of him as a little brother. They look out for him.”
They all looked out for each other.
